With over 340 days of annual sunshine, minimal rainfall and cloudless skies, the weather in Ayia Napa is a holidaymaker’s dream. Owing to its unique location off the coastline of both Africa and Asia, Cyprus’ climate is amongst the most temperate anywhere in the Mediterranean.

During the peak holiday season of early June to late August, temperatures in Ayia Napa regularly exceed 30 degrees Celsius (90F) with daily averages in the region of 27 degrees Celsius (81F). During the same period, sea temperatures also reach a very pleasant 27 degrees Celsius while rainfall is virtually non-existent. At the height of summer, holidaymakers in Ayia Napa will also enjoy 12 hours of sunshine every day.

While summer temperatures can be extremely high, Ayia Napa’s coastal location attracts a pleasingly cool sea breeze – a welcome relief during extended periods of sunbathing on the beach or by the poolside. With virtually no rainfall and barely any cloud cover, the summer heat in Ayia Napa doesn’t feel particularly humid either.

Although hottest during the summer months, Ayia Napa is a year round destination with clement temperatures throughout the winter, spring and autumn months. Even during the peak winter months of January and February, visitors can expect to enjoy temperatures in excess of 17 degrees Celsius (63F) and around 6 hours of daily sunshine.

The weather during the springtime period of late March to mid May is arguably the most pleasant of the year, with average temperatures between 18-20 degrees Celsius (64-68F) throughout. Visitors during the spring period will notice a vastly different landscape in the local area, with an abundance of wildflowers and greenery throughout the region.

Ayia Napa’s wettest month is December when monthly rainfall reaches approximately 80mm, although daily temperatures throughout the month still regularly exceed 17 degrees Celsius. This level of rainfall is uncharacteristic of the rest of the year, with Cyprus’ scarce precipitation regularly leading to drought warnings and water conservation efforts.

Although daytime temperatures are consistently pleasant and often stiflingly hot throughout the year, night-time temperatures can drop rapidly outside the peak summer months. As such, holidaymakers should ensure their suitcase is suitably stocked with warm evening clothing as well as beachwear.
